Final Take

Cassie Passantino looking out at the Hollywood sign

That’s a wrap everyone! Hofstra in L.A. 2019 is going to be quite a hit in the box office!

I had zero intention of moving to L.A. when I was leaving New York 10 days ago. I just wanted to explore the industry and meet people with careers I had never even heard of. Yet, as soon as we started bumping from meeting to meeting, I was quite confused. L.A. had gone from just a chance to explore to possibly a new home!

At first, I was super nervous about the prospect of moving across the country, but I realized something about the industry. There is no one way to find a career in media. You think you know what you want to do one minute, and the next day it changes. You can start as an intern, a PA, working in the mailroom or just meeting someone at a coffee shop and getting lucky.

Entertainment is one of those careers that you can’t plan. You just have to take every opportunity you can and give everything your all. The key is trusting that it will all work out in the end. I am not planning where I am going to end up 10 years from now. Do I think I will pack up my Jeep and drive across the country two days after I graduate? Absolutely not. I am not that type of person. But could I see myself living out here if the doors open that way? Who knows, maybe!

Right now, I am concentrating my energy on the two thesis films I am producing, nailing my internship and looking into some different summer internship options. What I gained from this trip was a newfound motivation to take the industry by storm. I was starting to lose my spark, as the industry seemed so intimidating. But meeting with all of these alumni and successful entertainers reminded me that making it, either out here or in N.Y., is completely possible if I do what I do best…give every opportunity my all!

And, cut!
