Sleepless in L.A.

Hofstra in L.A. reception at The Directors Guild of America.

By: Sophie Kabel

Today was an early start at 8:15 a.m. We first headed to ICM Partners where the agency represents many sectors of the entertainment business. Music, TV, film, and publishing are just a small portion of ICM. We talked to Bryan Diperstein, who is in charge on studio representation and reads scripts to pitch to studios. We learned a lot about his day-to-day life and it included an almost 24/7 work schedule in which he has to represent 50 clients. Bryan also went into detail about the process of how a script is sold and introduced us to how studios bid for each idea.

Control room of “Real Time with Bill Maher”.

We went to CBS where we met the director of Real Time with Bill Maher. He showed us the control room where we saw a rehearsal of the upcoming show this Friday. We got to see how the writers edit and work on the script during rehearsal. It was incredibly interesting to see my first television rehearsal and it was very similar to what we are learning at Hofstra. It was also pretty cool to be on the same set at The Price is Right.

The night ended with a reception at the DGA to bring together alumni and prospective students. It was such a great way to end the day by talking to all the connections we made throughout the week.
